Using Your Words for God’s Glory

Key Scripture

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
— Proverbs 18:21

Our words are not only personal; they are also spiritual. God has given us speech as a gift that can be used for His glory. Through words, we worship, testify, pray, encourage, teach, and proclaim truth. The tongue is not meant only for conversation—it is also meant for ministry.

Throughout Scripture, God uses words to accomplish His purposes. The gospel is preached. The weary are comforted. The church is strengthened. The broken are invited near. This means that our words can carry eternal significance when surrendered to the Lord.

A surrendered tongue does more than avoid harmful speech. It actively looks for opportunities to bring life. It blesses others. It offers encouragement. It shares testimony. It speaks hope. It points people toward Christ. Even simple words, when yielded to God, can become instruments of grace.

It is easy, however, to waste speech on complaint, criticism, argument, or distraction. Proverbs 18:21 calls us to something higher. If our words truly carry life or death, then we should offer them to God and ask Him to use them well.

Imagine beginning each day with this prayer: “Lord, govern my mouth today. Let my words glorify You and give life to others.” That prayer can transform ordinary conversation into sacred opportunity

Reflect

  1. How am I currently using my words for God’s glory?

  2. Where might I be wasting speech on things that do not bear good fruit?

  3. What would it look like to intentionally use my words as ministry this week?

Prayer

Lord, I surrender my words to You. Use my speech for Your glory. Let my voice become a source of encouragement, truth, comfort, and hope. Help me speak in ways that reflect Christ and point others to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
