Power That Lifts and Establishes

Ephesians 1 continues by describing how Christ was not only raised but also “seated… far above all rule and authority.” This adds another dimension to God’s power—it doesn’t just revive, it establishes and secures.

Context: Paul is emphasizing that Jesus is not only alive but reigning. His position “far above” everything else means there is no power, force, or authority greater than Him.

Broader Context: This matters because believers are connected to Christ. Later in Ephesians, Paul explains that we are raised up with Him and share in that position. That means our lives are anchored in something stable and victorious, not fragile or uncertain.

In practical terms, many of us live as if everything depends on circumstances. When things are going well, we feel secure. When they’re not, we feel anxious or out of control. But this passage points to a deeper reality—Christ’s authority is not affected by our circumstances.

God’s power doesn’t just help us survive situations; it places us in a position of security through Christ. We’re not constantly at the mercy of whatever happens next.

This truth can reshape how we respond to fear. Instead of feeling like everything is unstable, we can begin to see that there is a greater authority holding things together.

That doesn’t mean we ignore real challenges. It means we face them from a place of confidence rather than panic.

Reflective Questions:

  • What situations make me feel like I’m losing control?

  • How does knowing Christ is above all authority change how I view those situations?

  • Where can I choose trust over fear in my daily life?
