God’s Incomparably Great Power

Ephesians 1:19 describes God’s power as “incomparably great.” That’s not just a poetic phrase—it’s meant to challenge how we think about strength. We often compare power in terms of influence, ability, or control. But Paul is saying God’s power doesn’t fit on that scale at all. It’s beyond comparison.

Context: Paul is writing to believers and praying that they would know this power—not just agree with it, but experience it. It’s easy to believe in God’s power in theory while still feeling weak or overwhelmed in daily life. Paul’s prayer bridges that gap between belief and lived reality.

Broader Context: In the verses that follow, Paul connects this “incomparably great power” to the resurrection of Jesus. That’s the benchmark. The power that overcame death itself is the same power available to believers. This reframes everything. What feels impossible to us is not even difficult for God.

For most of us, life feels like a series of limitations—time, energy, resources, emotional capacity. We hit walls and assume that’s the end of the story. But this verse reminds us that God is not limited in the same way. His power operates beyond what we can see or measure.

This doesn’t mean we’ll always get the outcomes we want, but it does mean we’re never stuck in a situation where God is powerless. Even in weakness, His strength is present and active.

Learning to live with this awareness takes time. It means shifting from “I can’t handle this” to “God is not limited here.” That shift doesn’t remove challenges, but it changes how we face them.

Reflective Questions:

  • Where in my life have I quietly accepted limits that God hasn’t set?

  • Do I view God’s power as distant, or active in my current circumstances?

  • What would it look like to trust that God’s power is greater than what I’m facing right now?
