"This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalm 118:24
Brother Lawrence taught that God is always present — the question is whether we are awake to that reality. Today's invitation is simple: become more aware of the present moment as the dwelling place of God.
We spend so much of our lives mentally absent from where we actually are. We're reviewing yesterday's mistakes, rehearsing tomorrow's anxieties, or simply drifting through the hours on autopilot. Meanwhile, God waits for us in the now.
"Think often on God, by day, by night, in your business and even in your diversions. He is always near you and with you; leave him not alone." Brother Lawrence.
The present moment is the only place we can actually encounter God. The past is memory; the future is imagination. But right now — this breath, this heartbeat, this instant — is real, and God fills it completely.
Before your feet hit the floor, pause for thirty seconds. Close your eyes. Acknowledge God's presence: "Good morning, Lord. Thank You for this new day. I want to walk through it with You." Carry this awareness into your first activities.
Set an alarm for noon (or your lunch hour). When it sounds, stop whatever you're doing for one minute. Take three slow breaths. Remember: God is here. Offer the rest of your day to Him.
Before sleep, review your day with gratitude. Where did you sense God's presence? Where did you forget Him? Thank Him for both — for the moments of awareness and for His faithful presence even when you were unaware.
1. When during today did you feel most present and alive? Was God part of that awareness?
2. What typically pulls you away from the present moment? How might you address this?
3. What would change in your life if you truly believed God was present in every moment?
Write about this present moment in detail — what you see, hear, feel. Then write a prayer acknowledging God's presence within it.
